I had not been to the dentist in 7 years. Very thankful for finding this one! Dilworth Family Dentistry has been great. They got me in to my first appointment in a few business days. Then each of my follow ups within two weeks post the initial appointment. Special shout out to Tracy who has made this whole experience phenomenal and easy from start to finish. Highly recommend!
When it comes to the effect it has on your smile health, not all candy is equal. While some candy is relatively harmless to your teeth, other treats can inflict some serious damage.
This short video does a good job of pointing out some of the worst choices for Halloween treats – and some better options. It approaches the topic from a nutritional standpoint. But not surprisingly, the candy that is a healthier choice for your body is also better for your teeth.
Skip the sticky candies like Airheads, taffy, and gummies. They have no nutritional value. Plus, they cling to your teeth – which can damage your enamel and make you more cavity-prone. In addition to sticky candies, avoid any treats labeled “sour.” With high concentrations of sugar and acid, they are especially tough on your teeth.
Chocolate is one of your best choices. It does have some nutritional value. And since it melts quickly in your mouth, it washes away from your teeth without causing damage. Sugar-free gum is a good option too – especially if it contains xylitol, a cavity-fighting ingredient.
Making the right dietary choices – including limiting sugary snacks – is an important part of maintaining good oral health. You know daily brushing and flossing are essential. And you should visit our office every six months for a cleaning and exam.
